After the end of ski season and a few trail races in June, it was time to switch gears and start focusing on bagging some peaks around the state. As is the case most years, the month of July went by in a flash. Between working, heading to the hills, a road trip to Sante Fe with Anna-Lisa, and starting a few projects on the house, I simply wasn’t able to keep up with writing trip reports. Pow in the Gores: Silver Sneak and “Peak N”

This past Saturday Brian, Bloomy, and I made the short drive to Summit County with a pair of Gore Range ski lines in our crosshairs. We had a hunch that north and northeast aspects were going to deliver, so we decided to check out two inset couloirs with eastern access points – the Silver Sneak (aka “Elvis Crotch”) on 12er Buffalo Mountain, and a rarely skied line off 13er “Peak N” from Brush Creek. 2016 ended up being a busy year. Wedding and condo sale took up the majority of the summer, but I did manage to tick off a bunch of 12ers I had alienated over the years. Zirkels had been on said list for a while. I admittedly have never visited Steamboat in any month other than the middle of winter. I figured with all the snow it gets, it would be pretty green. Anderson and the Truros

A few weekends back Anna-Lisa, myself, and a few friends added another chapter to our annual Twin Lakes camping trip. We normally look to pull this trip off in August but this year schedules dictated it’d have to be late-June. As has become customary, Anna-Lisa and her friend Melina set off to summit another 14er (Mt. Yale this time) while I looked for 13er options in the area. After much deliberation I decided to head over Indy Pass and up the Lincoln Creek Road to check out the Anderson/Truro area. I had only been up Lincoln Creek once previously to ski the Grizzly Couloir in 2011, so I was excited to revisit the area and check out a few lesser-traveled peaks.  Keep reading…
