This is a well thought out ski pant from Flylow that can be used for both touring in the backcountry and inbounds. Its one of the most durable pants on the market with some of the better reinforcements out there. At the end of the day – its not a bad idea to have at least 1 item from Flylow in your ski apparel wardrobe, whatever that piece may be. This is a quality, long lasting product.
Function : Can be used both in and out of bounds. Very durable with reinforced knees and cuffs. There are vents on both the inside and outside that travel from your knees to your waist to keep you breathing on the uphill. The adjustable elastic waist is another great feature that avoids the need for a belt or suspenders. The old model wasn’t famous for its waterproofing – it could repel enough to keeep you dry in periods of mild precipitation – but too much and you could get soaked. Hugh just bought a house in Lafayette and wanted to take advantage of the options in his backyard. We were looking for some good vert and a solid workout, but not looking to drive far. Bear and South Boulder peaks fit the bill perfectly. Sunday was an incredible day for hanging outside. The temps were in the high 50’s to low 60’s and there was plenty of blue sky. As a history major, all I ever knew of the state of Montana growing up was General Custer and the Battle of Little Bighorn. I had no idea they had mountains. Years later I would come to learn it had mountains, and for some reason, I assumed being so far North from Colorado, that these mountains covered the entire state – like Alaska. This loop is a great way to experience the Northern Sangre de Cristos without getting yourself in to too much trouble as you would on peaks like the Crestones or Little Bear. The 13ers in this area are more reminiscent of their Southern Sawatch neighbors than they are to the conglomerate monoliths that signify the range. Keep reading…
