After a successful ski of Rainier the day prior, Dylan, Nolan and I packed up and motored down to Trout Lake, a small town between Hood River to the south and the Mt. Adams Wilderness area to the north. With near-perfect weather continuing to hold throughout the weekend and two more climbing days before our flight home, we knew we had a great shot of skiing Mt. Mt. Adams (13,931 ft) is a high 13er that resides just north of Kit Carson Mountain in the Sangre de Cristo range. It’s a neat, pyramid shaped peak with a few different faces rising out of different drainages up to a singular summit point. Being one of my favorites of all the “Centennial” 13ers, I was excited about the idea of revisiting Adams on skis. Kicking off the Summer in the Sangres: Mount Adams

With my snowshoes on Craigslist and Ben and Brian’s skies packed away for the season, it was finally time to dust off the trail shoes, strap on our 8 lb. packs, and kick off the unofficial start to the summer of 2014. The Sangres were an easy choice with the amount of snow still lingering around the rest of Colorado, and Adams and it’s surrounding 13ers were more than a worthy objective. Keep reading…
